The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was today, served the Federal High Court, Abuja order that parties involved in the planned recall of Senator Dino Melaye, should maintain Statusquo.
Melaye’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, who made this known to WazobiaReporters explained that maintaining statusquo meant the Independent INEC should halt the plan to proceed with the recall of the Kogi senator.
The order was made exparte; implying the order was given without hearing the order party, in this case INEC.
Ozekhome said “the order was duly served and INEC has therefore been restrained from taking any step on the matter of Senator Melaye’s recall till hearing and determination of his motion on notice for interlocutory injunction against the electoral body and another application for joinder by persons, all of which were fixed for September 29, 2017.”
INEC had listed its planned procedure for the recall process of Melaye following petitions written and signed by more than half of the
electorates from Kogi West senatorial district where Melaye represents.
The process had been slated to begin on July 10.
